Fine Arts Report – November 2009
· On October 29th, the choir and band
presented their second annual Collage Concert where all the choirs and bands
performed for a nearly sold-out auditorium.
The students had been preparing for this event since school started and
it was a huge success.
· The Varsity Choir is in their final
preparations for Chamber Choir Festival at Oakland University on November 16th.
· On Friday, December 4th, the Freshman
Choir will be performing at the Detroit Opera House in matinee performance of
“The Nutcracker Suite” with the Cincinnati Ballet. They will be singing in Act 1 of the ballet
and singing in the lobby before the show.
Pre-sale of tickets has already occurred. Contact the box office for ticket
information.
· The Varsity Choir will be performing Vaugh-Williams “Hodie” with the
Macomb Symphony Orchestra Sunday, December 6th at the MCC Performing Arts
Center. Ticket information will be
forthcoming.
· The Varsity and Concert Choirs will be
performing with the professional brass ensemble, The Detroit Chamber Winds
which is comprised of members of the DSO and MOT orchestras. The Detroit Chamber Winds will be performing
their annual “Holiday Brass“ concert on Sunday,
December 13th at 7:00 at the Grosse Pointe Memorial Church.
· All of the Dakota choirs will be
putting on their Holiday concert her at Dakota on Tuesday, December 15th.
· “Suessical-The
Musical” is this years school play and will be
performed January 28th, 29th and 30th.
The previously reported “Breakfast with the Characters” has been
cancelled.

Band – Ms. Risa Hsu, Director
· On Wednesday, October 14th, the Dakota Marching Band and Color Guard participated in the MSBOA Marching Band Festival held at Sterling Heights High School and scored straight “1’s” for their Flavors of Jazz show. The band performed extremely well in very cold temperatures.
· On Tuesday, November 10th, Abuelo’s Mexican Restaurant near Lakeside will be to the band program.
· The band program will be sponsoring two tables at the craft show November 14th. One table will be selling Dakota scrapbooks, page kits, papers and die cuts and the other will be selling Dakota Cougar flip flops.
· For the second consecutive year, the Dakota Cougar Marching Band and Color Guard is proud to be participating in the Annual Detroit Thanksgiving Day Parade.
· The marching band will be holding their annual banquet on December 3rd at 6:00.
· All of the Dakota Bands will be
performing this year’s Winter Concert on December 10th at 7:00. Ticket information will be forthcoming.
